Coolabunia State School is situated in the South Burnett District, approximately 10km south-east of Kingaroy. It has an enrolment of approximately 125 students, taught over six classes and supported by a non-teaching Principal. Our staff are focused on providing an education to all students that is aligned to research and best practice. Ensuring quality teaching and learning is at the forefront of all decisions that are made at Coolabaunia State School.
Students come from the surrounding rural areas plus the nearby towns of Kingaroy and Nanango. The school population has evolved into a rich mixture of families from a diversity of backgrounds. Enrolments have been increasing steadily over the past few years.
The school celebrated 125 years of education in 2016. Both old families and new continue to support the development of a strong family-like atmosphere and school pride. This pride is well documented. The school has an active Parents and Citizens Associations (P&C) that enhances many aspects of learning through its input and advice in decision-making, tuckshop, camp subsidy, facility and resource provision and community projects.
The school functions on a clear understanding of respect. Our behaviour motto is 'Respect yourself, others, things and places'. The respect focus, coupled with focus on the values of kindness, resilience, community, persistence and responsibility, allow us to support students in their development as young people. Students are supported to develop a growth mindset and are equiped with an understanding of neuroscience that enables them to have the tools needed to regulate their emotions.
Our curriculum is delivered using pedagogical practices that are evidence based - we ensure that our teaching and learning is supported by educational research. We aim to provide a learning environment that empowers each student to realise his/her full learning potential and exhibit the confidence, independence and motivation needed to deal with life’s challenges and opportunities. We strive to develop quality learning outcomes for all students and produce motivated, cooperative, independent, team learners who are responsible decision-makers and problem-solvers and who have a critical awareness of each person's contribution to the community.
The school's improvement agenda focuses on consistency of teaching practices and student engagement.
In short, Coolabunia State School provides a safe and supportive learning environment that empowers every student to realise their full learning potential.
